Leigh morris
Leigh is a horticulturist, conservationist and passionate about the positive impact a stronger culture of wilder gardening will bring for nature and people! Leigh’s career started as a horticulture apprentice, and holds an MSc in International Horticulture. He worked at Pershore College of Horticulture and Welsh College of Horticulture, before becoming Head of School of Horticulture at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, He is a past-President of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture, and chaired the Grow Careers initiative.
Leigh’s career developed a broader conservation focus, as Director of Community Conservation at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, and he currently sits on the Boards of Sea-Changers and the UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum. Leigh spent 8 years living on islands, St Helena in the South Atlantic helping develop local horticultural food production, then in 2020 he joined The Wildlife Trusts as CEO of Manx Wildlife Trust. This included the development of conservation horticulture, community gardening projects around the island, peat conservation, and a Certificate in Wildlife Gardening course that has been trialled by other Trusts in 2025.
Leigh joined RSWT in June 2025 as Director, International. His role aims to increase the relevance of, and the collective strategic delivery towards, the global biodiversity conservation and climate change goals across all The Wildlife Trusts.
